What to Do With Myself

So...we are in moving-overseas-limbo right now. Lots of waiting for other people and bureaucracies to do what they need to so that we can do the stuff that we need to. And we fly out in less than a month. I'm a bit of a bundle of nerves, but David said that one of his friends who's done this before told him yesterday, "If you don't have at least one moment in the last few weeks before you move when you think you are making a grave mistake, you aren't thinking about it enough."

So at least I know I'm thinking about it enough.

Anyway, since we are just waiting...I'm going to see Nobody. And I'm taking nobody with me. Not even Charlie, I decided, even though he is a fabulously cute accessory and I am prodigiously proud of him and will miss him like crazy. I just need a moment to myself.

This is only the second kid-free weekend I've ever experienced in all my parenthood. Kid-free hours or days don't even happen very often. It's going to be weird. And fun. And hilarious. And restful. And just what I need.

And then the insanity of final sorting, organizing, shopping and quasi-packing begins. Because we are out of our house in twelve days. And out of the country in less than a month.

Not to mention that my boy starts kindergarten once we are there and I'm going to have to start speaking Russian in my daily life and adjust to lots of different things while trying to ease the transition and keep it all together for three little kids.

Iowa seems like a very good place to put my head in the sand for a weekend.

Does this mean RED and CHARLIE can't get married this weekend. But I already bought the dress! Just throw him in I would love to see him. Earthgirl will take over and you won't even know he is there!
OOH you stink already!!!

Enjoy your time without your boys! Getting recharged and ready to tackle the move is a great plan. My husband and I are planning a getaway without the boys next year and I'm already looking forward to it, so I hear ya!

Here is my one piece of advice for you before you make your big move. Eat lots of American treats that you can't get in wherever you're going. Lots. Until you make yourself sick. Also, pack at least three books that will take you away to a dream land where everything is wonderful and romantic. That way you can escape to that world after the kids go to bed and your hubby isn't home yet. You'll only need the books for a while. Things always get better. No worries. Hope you enjoy my tips!

Be easy on yourself. Getting adjusted may not be easy, but it WILL happen. Praying for you and your family... Hang in there...

Iowa sounds like just the place to do it!

Hang in there-the transition period is the worst part. Just don't expect to much of yourself or anyone else in your family and know that it will get better. I can't believe your adventure is about to begin!

Christine gave you great tips and I wholeheartedly support what she said. My own tip is to not expect too much of yourself and simply accept the fact that it will all be very, VERY confusing after you arrive in your new country. You'll make yourself crazy trying to understand and figure it all out immediately. Embrace the confusion and laugh/cry about it every night.
