This Isn't Changing My Mind...

Although I did feel a little regret when we were nearly finished recovering the dining room chairs (a project that has been waiting since the chairs first started looking barfish - over a year ago) and David said, "Before we do the last one you should take a before picture for your blo---Oh, nevermind." Ouch. Especially coming from one of the poeple I thought I was neglecting when my blog habit was at its height.

What I mostly want to post is that I got some really sweet e-mails asking what the deal is with Henry, so I thought I would give a little update.

The pediatrician (who up until now was been my least favorite at the practice) really went the extra mile checking on things for us. I really felt validated that she was also concerned about his fevers and other weak health indicators.

For a few days, we were looking at the possibility of some kinda scarey things, but the doctor helped us rule everything out and all the blood tests - except the iron levels - came back fine. She consulted a specialist at the children's hospital and he wants to see Henry the next time he has a high fever to rule out one more option, but he is mostly certain that Henry just has a weak or immature immune system.

Basically it means that Henry has the superpower of picking up little viruses that don't bother other kids in the least (which is why his brothers and no one at preschool ever got sick at the same time), and they cause a very high and sometimes long lasting fever until he's over it. I think I will hire him out to detect all the "harmless" viruses all around us.

The bad news is that catching one of these little viruses really does do him in, and they happen about every two or three weeks. The good thing is that he will most likely outgrow it, and starting him on a regular iron supplement again will also build strength and immunity.

So there you go. Thank you for being concerned about the little guy. And me, his frazzled mom.

In the meantime, Calvin has developed a flare for the dramatic. I told him yesterday that he needed to pick up all the duplos (which was only a portion of the mess in the toy room) before he could play on the computer. He went in to get started and a couple minutes into it, he yelled, "I feel like I'm rotting in jail!" He has a lot of personal experience with that apparently.

A few minutes later I heard him mumbling, "I'm never going to be done...I've picked up a million of these things and there's just always more and more and more and more!"

I never really equated duplos with laundry and poopy diapers before. They really are good learning toys.

I am glad it is not one of those scary things they ruled out for Henry.
Duplos, I remember playing with those with my younger brother when he got some, vaguely 'h' shaped, stackable and buildable? They were pretty fun, though they did tend to get everywhere.

Glad Henry is ok-hope he grows out of it soon.

You can't quit-you crack me up! I was on the phone with my mom while I was reading this post(multi-tasking)and when I read the "rotting in jail" comment I cracked up.

At least he didn't say rotting in h#$@. :)

How can you stop blogging and share these awesome Calvinisms with all of us?! I'm really glad to hear about Henry and hope that his immune system matures quickly to help combat those bugs coming down the pike. Or is it pipe?

So, where's the picture of the chair? :)

I'm so glad he is feeling better. And maybe you can just check in sometimes. No pressure. You are a very funny person without feeling pressure to try and be funny and bloggy.

I'll check in now and again, but I know you'll do what's best for you and your family.

I just prayed for little Henry. Hopefully he'll outgrow it soon.

You've just got to make the blog your slave, not be a slave to the blog. It's kind of like a high school relationship: you can't let the blog think you like like it, you have to keep it guessing. You know, "Does she like me? Does she not?"

If you play coy with the blog, it'll will always be waiting when you want a little indulgence. But if you let the blog think it has you wrapped around it's little finger, then it has power over you, and you'll be going on a lot of lame dates with it.

I think it's time for me to take my medicine and go to bed.
