Have I Ever Been Instantaneous?

Henry: I'm hungwy, Mom.
Me: OK, I'll make sandwiches.
Henry: OK.
(less than a nanosecond passes)
Henry: Mom, I thought you were going to make sandwiches.

Henry: I need you to weach my puzzo fo me. I wanna play wif my puzzo.
Me: OK. (Moving toward the puzzle, in the same nanosecond...)
Henry: Mom, I thought you were going to get my puzzo for me.

I have no idea where the "I thought you were going to..." came from. But I cannot do anything fast enough to prevent it these days.

For the last few weeks, Henry seems to know there's big change coming his way. For one thing, he's developed separation anxiety really for the first time in his life (including not wanting to be left with his dad, even).

But this desire for me to do things, and do them now? Hmmm. You'd think he'd know that I rarely operate that way, certainly not in the last two months or so. Plus, he's never expected me to, before.

More than the idea of me leaving him, he needs to get used to the idea that I will sometimes have to finish other things (usually to do with the baby) before I can help him.

Yet somehow I get the distinct impression that he does understand that, and he's just training me right now. So maybe it's me that needs to be aware of the big changes coming my way...

I keep checking in here wondering when that "big change" is going to happen! Yes, it's hard for them to learn to wait, but it is something that they do have to learn.

I have a cherubic little drill sergeant, too! Hopefully everyone will make the transition to another little one in the house smoothly.

It never ceases to amaze me how kids as tiny as Henry can really understand subtleties such as the new baby consuming your time... but wow, before it even happens? Nice.

I thought of you today. Target called a Code Yellow for me! I'm in the club!

Bless his little heart. They just don't quite get it all as clearly as we'd like them to.

I fully expect to come back on Monday and find you with a new baby. Hope it's soon and that all goes well.

Poor little guy - each of mine have been super-clingy right before the new baby arrived, like that had some special baby-detecting radar.

My son went through a stage like that too. Oh, who am I kidding. He's still going through it and the baby is a year and a half old. Best of luck to all of you!

My son says this, but he has good reason to. He comes in to wake me up for cereal. I try to open my eyes and say, "Yes, I will get you cereal, go sit at the table" then I fall back asleep. He will wake me up two more times before saying, "Mom, I don't think you are ever going to really get me cereal".
Hang in there =)

Yes, he knows changes are ahead...

I am so out-of-touch. How are you doing?

Amazing how they seem to know. It will be a time of change for everyone...but he will adjust. When we had a new baby in the house I always referred to the older children as "grown up" or a "big girl" and stressed the priviledges of being older. I would ask them to preform some of the easy tasks that I had previously done for them...or bring diapers or supplies for the baby. They were able to "help Mommy and do so much more than the baby was able to do". It made them feel more grown up and it was great for me to have a second pair of hands. :-) Best wishes!!
